From there i'll make an adjustment and sometimes let them run the entire practice on circuit. When i start a practice i immediately send them out, and immediately bring them in at the end of the outlap. Let them run, dont worry about the times.*Īlso cars dont need a full lap to start giving you feedback. I would bring the cars in once or twice at most in practice. I rather have that race boost and a set up at 88% over having 98% setup but only have a 5% boost. \*Edit** When you have short practices bring the car in as minimal as you can, try to max out the time spent on track and get that 15% tyre boost. That way i only have minor adjustments to make in practice. Once i get a set up around 95-99% i save that set up and use it as my base for the next time i'm at that circuit. Save setups can not be sorted, and seem somewhat random. The car setup % doesn't seem to be effected by switching drivers, if it is it is very minimal. I have used my 3rd driver in practice and set up a car around 95%, then my main driver takes over for qualify and race. (Final note) Driver feedback is what gets you faster and more accurate results for a car set up. I often prioritize the tyre i will use in the race to get that 15% boost. In practice i use the tyres based on what strategy i want to run or how many tires are available (depending on rules). I have very similar but slightly different set ups for each car. In the end, Yes the setups will be different for each car, each driver, but they will not change based on the tyre you are running. Correct tyre for the condition and that bar fills very quickly (even faster if you have great feedback from your driver) So if its raining, and you insist on using a dry tyre that specific boost you want to reach will take much longer to achieve. If you use the wrong tyre for the conditions the (points / research) towards that boost are earned very slowly. The importance of tyres in practice is to unlock the boosts for race or qualify. First off Tyres do not effect the set up of the car, 99% set up on Softs will be a 99% set up on Mediums, or inters, or wet. This is because as your car changes, and the conditions change for the race weekend or who you driver is, the set ups are slightly different.Īs for tyres, its a little complex to explain, but easy to understand. I also find a 98% set up one year will parhaps be only 90% the next time youre at the circuit. The set up is slighty different for each driver.
